Holland, MI – May 28, 2024 – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) recently awarded READ Ottawa a $8,000 grant to support adult literacy. This local grant is a part of the Foundation’s more than $10.6 million donated to support adult, family and summer literacy programs in the 48 states in which Dollar General operates. With today’s grants, the DGLF also surpasses helping more than 20 million individuals achieve their educational dreams since its inception in 1993.
READ Ottawa’s Executive Director Allyson Velderman expressed the organization’s gratitude for continued funding from the DGLF: “These grant dollars will further our efforts to match local adult learners with tutors ready to support them in their literacy goals. Literacy is a human right and a critical skill to flourishing, and we are dedicated to supporting Ottawa County adults who seek greater literacy and fluency.”
READ Ottawa began in 2009 serving the Tri-Cities of Ottawa County before expanding service county-wide in 2020. While Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Ferrysburg remain the roots of the organization, there is unprecedented growth and opportunity in the Holland and Zeeland communities and other areas in the county. READ Ottawa is committed to strategic scaling to meet those demands as funds and scalability allow. READ Ottawa has partnered with over 700 adult learners since the nonprofit started.
